Chlorellaceae Feedstock Selection under Balanced Nutrient Limitation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Microalgae are an attractive source of biomass for fossil fuel alternatives and renewable energy sources. Regardless their potential, the development microalgal biofuels has been limited due to associated economic environmental costs. We followed compared properties six Chlorellaceae strains with a specific interest in lipid-based biofuels. The were cultivated under balanced nutrient limitation inducing gradual nutrients that triggered reserve accumulation. final each strain was characterized by its elemental biochemical composition. Due high lipid content overall composition, Chlorella vulgaris NIES 227 identified as ideal feedstock best energy-content biomass. Its fatty acid profile also showed superior qualities biodiesel production. Balanced promoted not only accumulation storage compounds all strains, but resulted low heteroatom precursors ashes biofuel applications.

Phytoplankton growth and stoichiometry under multiple nutrient limitation
Phytoplankton growth and stoichiometry depend on the availability of multiple nutrients. We use a mathematical model of phytoplankton with flexible stoichiometry to explain patterns of phytoplankton composition in chemostat experiments and nutrient drawdown dynamics that are found in the field. Exponential growth and equilibrium represent two distinct phases, each amenable to mathematical analy...
متن کاملMetabolic suppression identifies new antibacterial inhibitors under nutrient limitation
Characterizing new drugs and chemical probes of biological systems is hindered by difficulties in identifying the mechanism of action (MOA) of biologically active molecules. Here we present a metabolite suppression approach to explore the MOA of antibacterial compounds under nutrient restriction. We assembled an array of metabolites that can be screened for suppressors of inhibitory molecules. ...
متن کاملNutrient Limitation in Central Red Sea Mangroves
As coastal plants that can survive in salt water, mangroves play an essential role in large marine ecosystems (LMEs). The Red Sea, where the growth of mangroves is stunted, is one of the least studied LMEs in the world. Mangroves along the Central Red Sea have characteristic heights of ∼2 m, suggesting nutrient limitation. We assessed the nutrient status of mangrove stands in the Central Red Se...
متن کاملNutrient co-limitation of primary producer communities.
Synergistic interactions between multiple limiting resources are common, highlighting the importance of co-limitation as a constraint on primary production. Our concept of resource limitation has shifted over the past two decades from an earlier paradigm of single-resource limitation towards concepts of co-limitation by multiple resources, which are predicted by various theories. Herein, we sum...
متن کاملInorganic nutrient limitation of oceanic bacterioplankton
Although it is commonly accepted that dissolved organic carbon (DOC) of algal origin limits bacterial growth in pelagic systems, there arc relatively few empirical studies documenting this effect. Depending on site and season, both organic and inorganic nutrients can limit the growth of freshwater bacteria. By contrast, inorganic nutrients have only recently been implicated as potentially growt...
